Willie’s song “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die” demonstrates the pot smoking country singers passion for good weed, and the smalltime cultivators who grow his favorite strains. As a long time supporter of the American farmer – and marijuana reform – the 82-year-old cannabis connoisseur has just announced a new frontline on the battle over legal pot; the corporate takeover of Big Marijuana.

Even Willie Worries: Yesterday, the Farm Aid founder and country superstar spoke with a New York publication about the fast-growing marijuana industry. Despite having his own brand of chronic weed, Willie’s concerned over the money-hungry investors queuing up behind marijuana reform – eyeballing the legalization of pot as their next get-rich-quick scheme. This trend has left Nelson feeling more than a little queasy about the cultivation of America’s lust for corporate marijuana, fearful of their potential to monopolize the entire industry.

Per the NY Mag post, “The two largest marijuana companies for now — Privateer Holdings, the Bob Marley label, and Diego Pellicer, the would-be Starbucks — have both embarked on long-term strategies to develop massive growing operations.”

And according to Nelson, “These problems could have been fixed on the first day,” he says finally, “but you have a lot of bureaucracy and bullshit, a lot of big corporations. So that’s what we’re up against.”
