Eight Grams of Marijuana Given Back at Fairbanks Airport

Passengers taking off from Fairbanks International Airport with less than 28 grams of pot needn’t worry about handing over their recently legalized stash, at least according to one of the TSA’s more aptly named representatives.

Per Lorie Dankers of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the federal agency doesn’t consider “marijuana a security threat.” As such;

TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other drugs. In the event a substance that appears to be marijuana is observed during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.

Already the TSA’ s national policy, the police at Fairbanks International Airport are just now getting the marijuana memo:

“It’s up to their discretion what happens next.”

tsa_fairbanks_alaska_marijuanaAccording to the Alaskan Dispatch News, the dope TSA topic was initially fired up when 8 grams of Pineapple Express was confiscated from Frank Berardi on July 27, 2016, as he prepared to board a flight to Anchorage, Alaska from Fairbanks. Given several choices on how to best resolve his marijuana possession dilemma, Berardi opted to relinquish his stash to the airport authorities and file a civil suit to free his weed.

By winning his court case, Frank Berardi has shed some much-needed light on the topic of legally flying with state-sanctioned marijuana; Berardi’s case underscores the vast chasm of confusion that exists between local airport authorities in states that have legalized marijuana and the TSA.

After cultivating a lawsuit and winning the case to retrieve his recently legalized and seized substance back from the Fairbanks Airport Police, Mr. Berardi was handed his Seth Rogen-approved stash by FIA’s chief of police, Sean Martinez. Uttering something you rarely hear from a police officer, even in a state that has legalized recreational pot for its constituents, Officer Martinez informed Frank Berardi …“I’ve got some marijuana for you.”
